Having hit 15% natural alcohol, the 2010 seems much softer and accessible than most of its massively endowed peers. As I have said in the past, Clos de Sarpe is generally a wine for those with 19th century tastes. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% cabernet Franc cropped at a low 21 hectoliters per hectare, the 2010 exhibits a dense purple color as well as lots of crème de cassis, kirsch, licorice, incense and chalky notes. Dense and full-bodied as well as more supple than usual, this wine should be drinkable within the balance of my lifetime – unusual for this estate. Give it 5-7 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 20-25 years.

This estate hits another home run! It is more similar to the 2006 than the 2005. Its ink purple color showcases some deep scent of mulberry liqueur, cherry extract, stone, blueberry, and big, velvety flower. Lavishly flavored, b road, full-bodied, and dense with its abundant mulberry/cassis fruit and expansive depth. There is nothing missing in this effort. There is great upside to this beauty!

It is worth mentioning that Jean-Guy Beyney’s incredible terroir produces one of St-Emilions’ most nuanced wines! Although different in style and flavor I cannot express enough how complex and delicate the winds of this estate are. This vintage is similar to the 2006, boasting a dense murky purple hue, followed by savory cassis, black raspberry, port, and tasajo meat, intertwined with crushed mineral, and with flower. Full bodied, dense, opulent, texturally broad, and fragile, with delicious sweet, ripe-fruit, and moderate-tannin.

Its deeply rimmed, opaque inky-purple color proceeds dense aromas of melted cassis, cherry liqueur, graphite, sweet blue flower, and hints of mushroom. Full-bodied, dense, and concentrated with rich black cherry infused with mulberry. A typical delicacy and an impressive dimension of flavor and complexity.

Schwarz. Super druckvolle Nase, intensivste, schwarze Frucht. In Nase und Mund ein Blockbuster. Tannine bis zum Abweinken, dabei nicht zu hart, aber durchaus mit der Tendenz zur Uberreife. Auch Frucht und Konzentration ohne Ende. Der Stil eines Garagenweins und in dieser massiven Ausprägung unerwartet für dieses Jahr. Der Abgang wirkt mehr al seine Minute nach. Kann man von der Power auch höher bewerten, riesiges Potenzial, aber nicht mein Stil. Ein monster für Krafttrinker!

On ne peut qu’être séduit par ce Saint Emilion GC 2003, très représentatif des belles réussites de l’appellation dans ce millésime, à la fois charnu et distingué, d’une belle couleur rubis prononcé, avec des notes de fruits murs et de réglisse, parfait sur un civet. Le 2002, de couleur profonde, allie concentration aromatique, ampleur des tanins et distinction en bouche. Le 2001, corsé, aux notes de pruneau et de sous-bois, est un vin puissant, de très bonne bouche, de très bonne évolution. Le 2000, de couleur grenat, d’une belle concentration, aux notes de griotte mure et d’épices, est un cru qui allie distinction et richesse. Excellent 99, intense, aux notes de cassis mur et d’épices, un vin puissant et harmonieux. Le 98 est remarquable, aux tanins fermes et soyeux à la fois, ben élevé, au nez complexe. Le 97, de bouche à la fois souple et charnue, est très réussi, de bonne évolution. Vieux millésimes disponibles.
